The ITIL Frameword shares best practises that can be customized for individual organistaion by IT practicioners and consultants. Accusations that many ITIL advocates think ITIL is “a holistic, all-encompassing framework for IT governance” are sometimes heard.

Incident Control: life cycle management of all Service Requests PRINCE2 defines 45 separate sub-processes and organizes these into eight processes. The concept of “Service” in an IT sense has a distinct operational connotation, but it would be incorrect then to assume that IT Service Management is only about IT operations. The quality of the library’s volumes is seen to be uneven.

A `problem’ is an unknown underlying cause of one or more incidents, and a `known error’ is a problem that is successfully diagnosed and for which either a work-around or a permanent resolution has been identified.
